[Impromptu] how to play multiple instr. on the same audiounit?

Hi Andrew / mailing list,

on the 'diatonic harmony' tutorial [http://impromptu.moso.com.au/tutorials/making_music/Diatonic%20Harmony.html 
] towards the end you say "I’m playing my instruments on the same  
audiounit but using different midi-channels for each instrument. ",  
and you go on by assigning midi-channels (numbers) to instrument  
names, that then are passed to the play-note function.

I get how this works in principle, but I didn't succeed in setting  
this up..
I guess this has to be done from the audio-units UI? Can I do it with  
the DLSMusicDevice? Or for example, with Crystal ?
