Dave,
Midi pipe is cool. Thanks for pointing it out.
Another problem is the sloppy timing in MIDI when using external
synths. I just started working with Redmatica's Autosampler http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/AutoSampler.html
With that I can use an external synth and when I'm happy with the
sound I can automatically make an extensive keymap for an AU sampler
of the synths preset. Some sounds can't really be captured that well
but for the most part it works good.
MIDI obviously can't be avoided with the old gear but I see no reason
to flog the old horse when it comes to internal communication.
A friend of mine is building an interesting box that converts audio
signal to CV/Gate. It's basically a modified D/A converter with the LP
filters removed. With that I can get MIDI out of the chain when
driving old CV/Gate gear. We don't have a working copy yet but
apparently the concept is simple and doable. So, (in order to make
this post have something to do with Impromptu) with that I can drive
my old CV/Gate gear from Impromptu without using external MIDI :)
All the best,
Olle
